There is need for complete overhaul of education system: Karajagi
“There is an urgent need to introduce creativity-based teaching in schools,” Gururaj Karajagi, educationist and motivational speaker, has said.
He was addressing teachers at the Career Utsav, organised by the district administration as part of the Bidar Utsav, here on Wednesday.
Dr. Karajagi said discoveries were made every day in the field of science and technology. But textbooks had not been updated for years. Even the teaching methodology was not changed on a regular basis.
There was no new approach towards the teaching-learning method. When the procedure was the same, how could the effect be different,” he asked.
Teachers should keep themselves abreast of the latest developments, and work towards explaining the subject matter in a simple manner.Teachers should adopt a customised approach as each child was different. To achieve all this, the education system had to be completely overhauled, Dr. Karajagi said.
He said that research into brain functioning had given some tips to teachers about changing their approach. Students should be divided into small groups and engaged in group discussions, teachers should emote while teaching and involve the students, and a multimedia approach always led to better teaching, he said.
Shashil Namoshi, former MLC, said teachers should focus on training youth for the employment opportunities opening up after Article 371-J was amended. He urged teachers to love their students and focus on making them better citizens.
Sunil Panwar, Deputy Conservator of Forests, released a calendar brought out by the District Science Centre.
Revanasiddappa Jalade, secretary, Saraswati Education Society; Inayat Shindhe, Block Education Officer; Basava Kumar Patil, Kalyan Karnataka Trust president, and Baburao Dani, secretary, DSC, were present.
Basavaraj Patil Sedam, MP, Abdul Quadeer, secretary, Shaheen Education Society, and others were present at the valedictory of the Career Utsav in the evening.
The kindergarten curriculum generally will include teaching children how to hold books, how to recognize book covers, and how to differentiate between letters, words, and sentences.
